Cherokee Women

~~ ONE LAST LOOK ~~

One last look back, I take the chance,

while feared Skin Walker dances across the sky.

Watching my people walking cross currents,

tears fallen to earth, gentle blossoms they cry.

~~

Transform their body to another distant plane,

away from the sun scorching down with searing heat.

No offerings can stop destiny laid down before us.

as the dust rises up from tired shuffling feet.

~~

Spirits have mercy on these tender, gentle souls,

we are fierce guardians of our long time history.

May we always have strength, with honesty in our eyes,

for the children who follow this path cloaked in mystery.

~~

Take my pure heart and pour it on the ground,

Grandmothers light such mighty fires of the lake.

Slowly all answers will be revealed once again,

it is manifested love, this giving that we take.

~~

We have spoken to the man on the mountain top,

he has promised we will return to our sacred land.

Shrouded in clouds that spin through the hemisphere,

balanced in crystal valleys, attempting to understand.

~~

Our home beyond the horizon, corn left in the fields,

weaponry now lay discarded, covered with red rust.

Whom were we to believe, when time passed the rivers,

and where was the treaty in written words of trust.

~~

One last look back, I take the chance,

while feared Skin Walker dances across the sky.

Watching my people walking cross currents,

tears fallen to earth, gentle blossoms they cry.
